The lodge is luxurious and incredibly stylish, with light, airy spaces that combine the flavours of Africa with the Mozambican coastline’s Portuguese heritage. The main area of the lodge includes an extensive library, a well-stocked boutique shop and plenty of dining tables for those rare occasions when the weather doesn’t call for dining under the stars. Down on the beach swaying palms tower over the white sand and a traditional dhow sailing boat has found it’s calling, converted into a swanky bar, a wonderful spot to enjoy your evening cocktails.

The lodge’s bedrooms all lie horizontally to the beach, with wide doors and windows providing beautiful ocean views. The lattice walls to the rooms provide a steady cooling breeze off the ocean, and the private infinity pools on the deck of each lodge offer a welcome respite from the heat. Each villa's vastly spacious deck also encompasses a sheltered dining area, sun loungers by the plunge pool as well as just below the villa on the beach, and also a swinging day bed, perfect for those midday naps. Within the rooms themselves there is every luxury you could wish for, including a roll top bath, minibar and an outdoor shower area. For families there is the Casa Familia, which boasts three bedrooms, each with their own ensuite bathroom and a vast deck with a private swimming pool.

&Beyond Benguerra Island is situated on the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, found off the coast of southern Mozambique. Set within a marine conservation area, the island offers beautiful white sand beaches and the waters of the Indian Ocean that surround it teem with marine life and unspoiled coral reefs. Inland on Benguerra Island there is a lush green landscape of forests, soaring sand dunes, fresh water lakes and wetlands to be found; so plenty to explore.

For a barefoot getaway on a remote island &Beyond Benguerra Island has managed to achieve a remarkable level of sophistication. Whilst most guests will probably stick to bare feet or flip flops you also wouldn’t feel completely over the top if you wanted to dress up in the evenings as the beauty of the lodge certainly allows for this. Another huge plus of &Beyond Benguerra Island Lodge is that the majority of the activities are included in the rates, making it exceptionally good value, especially if you're somebody who likes to keep yourself busy with things to do whilst on holiday.

Children of all ages are welcome although childminding is not available.

Laundry and wi-fi is included and the wi-fi is available in the main guest area and villas.

Mozambique's hot weather lasts from October to February, while the winter months from June to August are warm. Rainfall usually occurs between November and March, but peaks in February and March. Rain comes down in short, sharp downpours. Average daytime temperatures are 25-35 degrees celsius in summer and 21 to 28 degrees celsius in winter.

The island is situated in a malaria area and necessary precautions should be taken.
