Denis Island is a very special spot, privately owned and with just 25 cottages around the island, really giving you the feeling of being on a private island estate. The cottages a spaced out along the beach on the northwestern tip of the island, each cosily nestled amongst swaying palms and lush green gardens, and separated from each other by gardens and hedges. When heading to the main building of the lodge for meals or cocktails you can either wander along the white sand beach, or follow the meandering sandy pathways through the jungle like forest, spotting giant tortoises on your way. The food on Denis Island is delicious, with fresh fish from the day’s catch, bbq’s on the beach, delicious sushi and sashimi, or elegant five course dinners. Meals can be enjoyed in the hotel restaurant, on the deck of your villa, under the stars on the beach, or amongst candles in the wine cellar.
The pace of life on the island is peaceful and unhurried, whether you feel like simply relaxing and sunbathing on the beach, or swimming in the lagoon. Walks through the jungle are a pleasant way to spend an hour or two and you can join the islands resident experts in learning the history of Denis Island, or about the wildlife and conservation projects taking place. There is snooker and chess in the library for anyone wishing to stay indoors, or canoes and boat trips to other islands if you’d prefer to be out on the water.
For keen divers there is incredible diving to be found here, and a PADI dive centre on site offering courses for beginners and experts alike. Should you wish to go fishing there is also fantastic big game fishing and also fly-fishing on the flats. If the island itself isn’t enough to ensure complete relaxation during your stay, then spa treatments are also offered within the privacy of your cottage’s courtyard garden.
