There are eighteen rooms at Fundu Lagoon, some right on the beachfront, others set back in the jungle, but all with beautiful ocean views. The rooms are traditional canvas safari tents, but set under ‘makuti’ thatch roofs on wooden decks. All the rooms have en-suite bathrooms and ceiling fans, mosquito nets, and in-room fridge and safe. Some also have private plunge pools on their terrace.

Hillside Rooms
The standard bungalows enjoy privacy, panoramic views of the Indian Ocean and a cooling breeze. On the private decks are a sofa and sunlounger.

Beachfront Rooms
The interior of the beachfront rooms are identical to the Hillside Rooms but they also benefit from direct acess to the beach with a couple of sunloungers, as well as their private decks.

Beach Suites
Situated right on the beach, these bungalows have an extensive private deck with a sunken seating area for relaxing or reading and a private plunge pool.

Jungle Suites
These bungalows offer the most privacy, set slightly back from the beach in the trees. They have extensive private decks with an elevated seating area and a plunge pool.

Superior Suites
The largest of the rooms at Fundu Lagoon, these extensive suites offer deluxe accommodation incorporating a stylish bedroom and an open plan living area. The spacious outside deck area has a plunge pool and plenty of space for private dining.

The cuisine at Fundu Lagoon is a fusion of Swahili and international, served in the main restaurant or the pool bar, or if you wish you can enjoy a private dinner on your room’s own deck. Once a week there is also a beach BBQ with a bonfire under the stars, and also Swahili-themed nights with dinner on the jetty. There are three bars and the jetty bar in particular is a spectacular spot for watching the sunset as you enjoy your cocktails.

Accessible only by boat, Fundu Lagoon is located on the largely undeveloped Spice Island of Pemba, north of Zanzibar, off the Tanzanian coast. This remote and peaceful island has a definite Robinson Crusoe feel to it, and avoids the flocks of tourists that head to Zanzibar each year. To reach Fundu Lagoon you fly to Pemba and then are driven across the island to the port from where you are transferred by boat to the long jetty that leads to the resort, which extends along a natural beach where the jungle meets the sea.

As anyone who has visited Fundu Lagoon will attest, it is a very special place. The journey to get there in itself is exciting and impresses on you the remoteness and wildness of your destination. In terms of a picturesque resort it really can’t be beaten and there is a wonderful family feel to the staff that work at the resort. Whilst children over the age of 12 are welcome we feel that Fundu is most suited to couples and honeymooners as it really is a spectacularly romantic destination.

Pemba Island is best reached by light aircraft, landing at Chake Chake airport. Local airlines that fly here include Coastal Aviation, Zanair, Auric Air and Flightlink. Rothwell Rose Bespoke Travel can organise all of your flights so this will be no hassle for you. You would simply fly into either Dar Es Salaam, Nairobi, or Zanzibar and then board your charter flight to Pemba Island. On arrival at the island you will be met and transferred by car to the ferry port, this takes about 25 minutes. Here you will board the private Fundu Lagoon boat service which will then take you straight to the lodge. The boat ride takes approximately 25 minute depending on the tide.

There is a 5* PADI Dive Centre at Fundu Lagoon.

Wi-Fi is available at the lodge but in the reception area only.
