Secluded and exclusive, Hotel Esencia is the winner of countless awards
Originally built as the private home of an Italian duchess
Set on one of the few undeveloped shores of the Mayan Riviera
As of 2014 Hotel Esencia has been under new ownership and every aspect of the property has been redefined and reinvigorated resulting in a property that is as close to perfection as anyone could wish for. Rooms have been redesigned and luxurious touches throughout pay homage to side century design and art in Mexico and further afield. A new executive chef has revolutionised the menus and a new beach bar provides a charming place for juices during the day and cocktails in the evening. Every aspect has been thought of, even the music which plays subtly throughout the hotel with a special music play list conceived exclusively for the hotel by celebrated sound designer Michel Gaubert.
Guest rooms at Hotel Esencia are a thing of beauty, each with a private terrace and sitting area offering views of the jungle or tree canopy or a panorama of the Caribbean ocean. The majority are one-bedroom suites but there are also a couple of villas with either two or three bedrooms for families travelling together or those after absolute privacy and their own private butler and cook.
For a boutique hotel Hotel Esencia also offers a surprising range of dining possibilities, from Mister Xpu-Ha - a multi-cultural gastronomic restaurant with incredible sea views, to The Pool Restaurant - offering more relaxed cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients, to The Garden Restaurant - a fine dining Mexican restaurant slit by lanterns in the heart of the palm garden.
Hotel Esencia is located on a beautiful stretch of the Mayan Riviera, just fifty minutes south of Cancun and thirty minutes north of Tulum by car. Surrounded by Mayan jungle the property is exceptionally private and peaceful. The hotel is set on a 50 acre estate and the villas and suites are dotted along the jungle pathways and the beachfront.
The photos of Hotel Esencia don't even begin to do the hotel justice. The bedroom décor throughout the hotel is absolutely exquisite, with spacious white rooms containing splashes of colour and pieces by local artisans. The cuisines is also excellent, very much so what you might wish for in a fine-dining restaurant but should you wish for something more relaxed then their is also a more casual menu at The Pool Restaurant. One of our favourite things about Hotel Esencia was the strong sense of 'home' that you get there as a result of it being privately owned and the owner being so involved in the day to day affairs of the property. The peacocks roaming the gardens and jungle are also a lovely touch.
