Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort was reportedly born when its founder, Jussi, was travelling through the wilderness near Finland’s’ northernmost fishing village. When his car broke down he was forced to camp near the isolated roadside roads and promptly fell in love with the spot and set up a permanent camp that has developed over the years to become Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. This romantic story reflects the magical aura of the area, and guests now travel here from all around the world to stay in Kakslauttanen’s variety of accommodations.
It is a large resort, featuring some 145 rooms. The resort is separated into two sections to make each one feel slightly more intimate and cosy. These are called the East and West Villages (the West is the newest). Accommodation is split between glass igloos, Kelo-Glass igloos, log cabins and snow igloos. 2-person glass igloos include a loo and the option of an extra bed; shower and sauna facilities are in a separate building. The 4-person glass igloos include their own shower. Kelo-glass igloos sleep up to 6 and combine the comfort of a traditional log cabin with the views of a glass igloo. These feature a sauna, fireplace, kitchenette and bedroom with glass roof. The traditional log cabins are all equipped with bathroom and shower, sauna, fireplace and kitchenette. They can accommodate up to 6 guests. There are also lavish Queen Suites, which come with a sauna, and outdoor Jacuzzi. Finally there is a Wedding Chamber with a turf roof for those wanting maximum privacy. The snow igloos construction each year is weather dependant; usually they are ready by the end of December.
Activities vary hugely depending on the season and in summer the resort is a great destination for nature lovers, wanting to enjoy some kayaking, hiking and mountain biking.
