LUX* Grande Gaube is a spellbinding resort, styled by British designer Kelly Hoppen in a retro-chic style that definitely has the ‘Wow factor’. The grand entrance sets the tone as soon as you arrive, and the quirky LUX* coffee shop gives you your first indication of the many eclectic touches to be found around the resort. Soothing white tones, thatched roofs and splashes of colour combine to create an uplifting and imaginative beachside resort.

Guests at LUX* Grande Gaube can enjoy the choice of two beautiful beaches and two swimming pools, one of which is a serene adults-only pool. The main beach curves around a cove with a relaxed beachside restaurant at one end, the romantic Turkish-style Bodrum Blue restaurant floating on stilts at the other end, and the watersports centre and ice-cream van to be found by the beach itself. One of the particular charms of this resort is the way it is spread out with hidden delights to be discovered at each turn. Set back from the sea the rustic Creole smokehouse restaurant transforms into a magical jungle paradise at night with countless hanging lights under a sprawling banyan tree. Guests can also enjoy the delights of the Rum treehouse cabana to be discovered here, or opt for G&Ts from the sunset gin bar, or cocktails served from the Vintage Citroen H van in the Palm Court bar. With a choice of six restaurants and seven bars guests here are truly spoilt.

There are 183 sea-facing rooms and suites at the resort, as well as three villas set at the point of the peninsula. Rooms are all designed in a cheerful beach-chic style, with soothing tones, eclectic splashes of colour and luxurious furnishings.

  • 69 x Superior Rooms: These comfortable rooms are 51sqm in size and have an en-suite bathroom with a large rainfall shower.
  • 46 x Deluxe Rooms: These rooms are also 51sqm in size and are clustered around a secluded adults-only bay, located on the ground and first floor and providing peace and privacy.
  • 34 x Junior Suites: These 56sqm spacious suites each have a secluded decked terrace and are located on the ground floor with direct access to the beach.
  • 21 x Ocean Junior Suites: These 70sqm suites are designed for couples and locate on the second floor with a spacious balcony featuring loungers and an outdoor bathtub.
  • 5 x LUX* Suites: These vast 85sqm suites boast a generously proportioned lounge, walk-in dressing room and a large bathroom with a deep bath-tub and walk-in shower.
  • 2 x Prestige Junior Suites: These 75sqm suites are set by a secluded bay on the ground floor with an expansive outdoor terrace, a dining area and a private whirlpool bathtub.
  • 6 x Family Suites: The 85sqm family suites have a king-sized bed and large double sofa beds for children. They boast two spacious bathrooms and a walk-in dressing room.
  • 2 x Ocean Villas: These are two-bedroom villas encompassing 100sqm, set in their own landscaped gardens with a private pool, outdoor lounge and dining area and offering 24-hour butler service.
  • 1 x LUX* Villa: Encompassing a whopping 300sqm this is the resort’s largest villa and consists of two bedrooms with an outdoor lounge and relaxation deck, private swimming pool, gazebo and 24-hour butler service. The villa is set on a private peninsula with its own beach access for ultimate privacy.

The hotel is set on a secluded peninsula on Mauritius’ north coast, curving around a cove that looks out to Coin de Mire island. Grand Baie is just a 10 minute drive away and there is plenty to explore and enjoy in the area such as rum tasting at the 19thcentury Chateau Labourdonnais. The airport is approximately a 1hr10m drive away.

LUX* Grand Gaube blew us away on our visit there in December 2018. From the moment you walk into the property, through the jaw-dropping entrance, you will be smitten. The resort is contemporary meets chic and there are quirky touches throughout that make it particularly special such as the classic red phone box from which you can make complimentary international calls, the all day coffee shop, and the little messages and gifts in bottles that are hidden around the resort.

Children are very welcome at LUX* Grand Gaube with a kids club offering countless activities and outings and unlimited ice-cream from the ice-cream van should you book the all-inclusive rate. Extra beds can be added to each room and there are also family suites with a large double sofa bed for children and two bathrooms.

One of the two swimming pools is heated during the winter months and one is reserved for adults-only.

The LUX* Me Spa and wellness centre includes an extensively equipped gym and tennis academy. There are four tennis courts and 1 Padel Tennis Court. The spa is also home to a nail salon, barber shop and hair salon.

There is a golf driving range, dedicated golf coach and guests have privileged access to Mont Choisy Le Golf. Guests booking the Prestige Junior Suites or Villas also enjoy an unlimited green fee.

Complimentary water sports include: water-skiing, windsurfing, pedal boats, kayaking, aqua gym, mini sails, snorkelling, glass-bottom boat trips, paddle boarding and catamaran sailing.

Guests can book on a Bed & Breakfast, Half Board or All-Inclusive package. There is also the opportunity to top up their stay with a range of inclusive extras such as spa treatments, gourmet dinners, or extra activities.
