Ndomo House is the ideal option for anyone wanting privacy to travel with friends or a family, and yet have the option to just wander down the beach to socialise with others or enjoy the facilities of a world-class lodge.

The house was originally built by James and Suzie Lightfoot, managers of Kaya Mawa, for their family, then inspiration took shape and the plans for the house grew and grew, resulting in the beautiful Ndomo House three years later. The house is built around the natural rocky boulders of the island, with architecture inspired by their travels through Zanzibar, Zambia, Malawi and Kenya. Décor from Morocco and India also crept in, giving the rooms a wonderfully homely and eclectic feel.

There are several outdoor areas enabling guests to spend as much time indoors or outdoors as they please. Three of the four bedrooms are en-suite; there is a sitting room, which opens out onto a deck, a kitchen/dining room, a study, three large terraces, a courtyard, an outdoor dining and bbq area, the swimming pool and a secluded beach. Whilst the lodge is fully staffed with a nanny, cook, and housekeeper, if guests would prefer to enjoy meals at the lodge or use any of the lodges other facilities there is a boat and vehicles for their use should they not fancy the walk.

Ndomo House is a completely private four-bedroom villa, part of Kaya Mawa but 1km down the beach and entirely self-contained and fully staffed. It’s located on the South-Western corner of Likoma Island, in the middle of Lake Malawi, and enjoys uninterrupted views across to the neighbouring island, Chizimulu, and beyond to mainland Malawi 72km away. It’s spectacular location on the corner of the island allows the house to enjoy year round sunsets.

There is nowhere on earth quite like Kaya Mawa, and therefore nowhere quite like Ndomo House. It’s located in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable, you can enjoy spellbinding sunsets every day, and just down the beach you have a lodge with plenty of activities and fun things to do. For families Ndomo House would work brilliantly but we feel that with its countless terraces and great outdoor entertaining areas it is even more perfect for a group of friends or several couples travelling together in search of a fantastic and unique holiday.

To get to Ndomo House you need to fly either into Malawi, to Lilongwe Airport, fro where you can take a charter flight to Likoma Island. Alternatively there are also charter flights into Lilongwe from the South Luangwa should you be coming on from a Zambian safari. Please note that the weight allowance on the light aircraft flights from Lilongwe is 15kgs per person and soft bags must be used.

Weather wise Malawi has two seasons broadly speaking. The dry season is from May to November with temperatures around 30 degrees in May and dropping to around 20-25 degrees June to August. September to December it warms up to to around 37 degrees. From December to April is the rainy season although it doesn't tend to rain much during the days although there is of course no guarantee than this. Evening showers cool down the land so that temperatures reach around 30 degrees during the day with medium humidity.

Rates are on a fully inclusive basis including all food, local beers, local spirits, house wines, soft drinks, accommodation, laundry, transfers to and from the airstrip, snorkelling, mountain biking, kayaking, paddle boarding and sailing.
