When to go to Velaa Private Island

Not Ideal

Each of the private villas at Velaa has been designed and created using local materials and complementing the stunning scenery. Spacious terraces and comfortable gazebos are the theme throughout, all placed to maximise shade, breeze, views and privacy.

Beach Pool Villas– These nine detached one-bedroom beachfront pool villas are luxuriously furnished with wall-to-wall glass doors looking out to the beach beyond. The villas are 287sqm in size and filled with light but surrounded by clusters of palms to ensure privacy. To the front of the villa are day beds, a swinging chair and the private pool and outdoor dining area.

Deluxe Beach Pool Villas– These nine beachfront villas are very similar to the Beach Pool Villas, but slightly larger in size at 313sqm, each with a separate large living area.

Beach Pool House– There are seven Beach Pool Houses, each with two-bedrooms and a large living area leading to the kitchen area, complete with bar and high stools. The standalone outdoor dining platform offers panoramic views of the lagoon.

Veela Private Residence– There four ultimate beach residences each accommodate up to 10 guests, with four bedrooms. The residence comprises some 1,350sqm, including two terraces, a pool and a courtyeard. The residences are each two storeys high and laid out with privacy in mind. Behind the living area a gym, spa room and secondary outdoor living area provide plenty of quiet spots to relax.

Sunrise Water Pool Villa– These eight villas are spaced along an extended jetty with uninterrupted views of the ovean. The bedroom and bathroom open onto the terrace, pool and sun deck, with steps leading down into the ocean.

Sunset Deluxe Water Pool Villa– These eight villas have uninteruped ocean views and all face the sunset, separated by canvas sails ensuring utmost privacy. Inside the living room guests can enjoy drinks from their own bar area, set by a viewing window set into the floor.

Ocean Pool House– There is just one Ocean Pool House, prestigiously located on the tip of the island. This two-bedroom overwater residence enjoys and ocean backdrop from every aspect.

Romantic Pool Residence– Accessible only by boat, the Romantic Pool Residence is the ultimate private hideaway, suspended above the lagoon and offering the utmost privacy and romance. The residence comes with it’s own private chef and butler and all rooms open onto the terraces, where the Jacuzzi, pool, sundeck and sunken bath each offer views over the oceans. Guests can dine within their luxurious villa hideaway, or over the water in a dining gazebo on its own jetty. There is also a gym and spa treatment room within the residence meaning that you needn’t leave at all.

There are various dining options on Velaa Private Island, offering a range of modern European cuisine at Aragy & Cru; East Asian cuisine at Tavaru; and all-day beachfront dining at Athiri and Avi. Destination Dining also allows guests to enjoy their meals in a variety of settings on and off the island, and in-villa dining allows guests privacy and speedy service around the clock.

Velaa Private Island is located in the Noonu Atoll of the Maldives, 187km north of Male. The island is reached by a 45-minute seaplane journey from the main island of Male. Velaa shares its name and home with countless sea turtles that call the Indian Ocean home. From an aerial view you can see how the over-water villas have been designed to resemble the head of the turtle, whilst the island forms the body. It is details like that and the story behind Velaa Private Island that make it such an exceptional destination.

There are so many obvious reasons to love Velaa Private Island, like the face that it’s the most luxurious hideaway imaginable. Looking further than that though it’s one of our favourite spots as there is simply so much to do. Having a golf course in the Maldives is almost unheard of; let alone a rock-climbing wall! The design of everything is also spectacular, with turtle motifs throughout in reference to the island’s name and some truly unique structures with wonderful viewing areas such as the rooftop bar on the wine ‘tower’.

Velaa Island is around 20 hectares in size and home to 43 private villas, houses and residences (18 of which are over-water, one only reachable by boat). There are also 4 four-bedroom residences.

All the villas, houses and residences have private pools.

The island is the only place in the Maldives with a Clarins spa and all the products you'll find in your bathroom are also by Clarins.

There is a 9-hole golf course on the island designed by Josa Maria Olazabal and the Velaa Golf Academy.

A range of boutique shops will fulfil all your luxury shopping needs.

The island has incredibly extensive sports facilities including tennis court, golf course, squash court, badminton court, football pitch, 6 metre climbing wall and volleyball court.
