Arkaba Homestead is a beautiful historic property, dating back to the 1850s when it was a sheep-farming homestead. The flagstone floors, open fireplaces and charming design touches such as woolsack-wrapped bedside tables all pay homage to it's colourful past. This is a charming sanctuary amongst a harsh and rugged landscape. The Flinders Ranges provide a majestic backdrop and the outdoor swimming pool overlooks the Arkaba creek.

The five guest rooms are all individually styled and each has it's own en-suite bathroom and shaded veranda. Four of the bedrooms are located within the main homestead, whilst the fifth is set in the corner of the garden in the 'Coachman's Cottage', an ideal retreat for couples or honeymooners.

Activities take place daily on a shared basis unless booked privately in advance. There tend to be approximately seven hours of activities daily, designed to provide as much wildlife viewing as possible whilst exploring the beautiful landscape of the conservancy.

Arkaba is a luxury homestead set in 60,000 acre in the heart of Flinders Ranges in the South Australian Outback. The homestead can be reached by daily flights to Port Augusta from Adelaide, followed by a 75 minute drive. Alternatively it is a 5 hour drive from central Adelaide. This is a secluded and remote destination, perfect for wildlife and bird lovers, as well as those wanting a true retreat amongst breath-taking outback scenery.

As an eco-friendly property Arkaba strives to be as environmentally friendly as possible. They've created a wildlife sanctuary within the conservancy, pledging to protect native species and plants and eliminate non-indigionous feral animals. Food and wine is mainly locally sourced, organic and home-grown ensuring that guests here can enjoy the very finest fresh produce and delicious local wines. Chef Richard Cocoran serves up exceptional delicacies each day, and before dinner in the evenings canapés, cocktails and wines can be enjoyed, going down particularly well when consumed around the fire pit enjoying the views.

The homestead can be booked on an exclusive use basis, or by the room. Rates are fully inclusive of all meals, selected drinks and scheduled daily activities. There is a 2 night minimum stay policy.

Children over the age of 8 are welcome, although only those over 12 will be able to participate in Walks. If the homestead is taken exclusively then children of all ages are permitted.

Arkaba strives to be as eco-friendly as possible and as a result hot water is solar-generated and you won't find any electric kettles, mini-bars, TVs or phones in the bedrooms. Plastic bottles are also banned from the conservancy.

The homestead is open all year round but the Arkaba Walk only takes place between 14th March to 3rd November so as to avoid the high summer heat.
