Chinzombo is entirely in a league of it’s own in the Luangwa Valley, bringing levels of comfort and style that have not been seen elsewhere in the area. With canvas walls and suites that look out onto the river the bush feeling is retained but with a level of luxury that is extraordinary.

There are just six spacious villas, one of which is large enough to house a family of at least five with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The villas are all situated in the shade of gigantic trees on the riverbank and each has its own private pool. The décor is simple and classic and perfectly complements the surroundings. Each villa is even equipped with Wi-Fi and an eco-friendly cooling system in the bedroom as well as plugs, fans, a minibar fridge, and hairdryer.

At the main part of the lodge there are spacious dining and lounge areas and a vast deck by the riverbank, centred round the firepit. Evenings tend to be spent here discussing the day’s sightings and hearing stories from the guides – the most senior members of the legendary Norman Carr Safaris guiding team are based at Chinzombo. There is also a yoga and exercise area and even an Ebony Spa at the lodge.

Chinzombo is the newest in the Norman Carr bush camps collection, a modern and luxurious camp on the site of one of Norman’s original camps in 60 acres of private pristine Luangwa river frontage in the Luangwa Valley. This is one of Africa’s prime wildlife sanctuaries at the far end of the Great Rift Valley. Chinzombo is reached by a 70 minute flight to Mfuwe from Lusaka International Airport, followed by a game drive to camp through the South Luangwa National Park.

This is one of the few camps in the Luangwa Valley that is open all year round and it also benefits from private access to the South Luangwa National Park. The Luangwa River and its lagoons have the most intense concentration of hippos and crocodiles in Africa and it is one of the best places to see leopard. There’s even been a recent resurgence of wild dog for anyone searching for those elusive creatures. July to November are the best times for walking safaris and considered the most popular time of year but for any keen birders January to April can be magnificent with all of the migrant birds appearing.

1 hour from Mfuwe Airport.

Each villa is equipped with an eco-cooling air conditioning system for hot nights.

Chinzombo is open all year round.

The camp is wheelchair-friendly.

Chinzombo combines well with the other Norman Carr camps in Zambia that focus more on walking safaris.

There is limited WiFi at the camp.

Children of all ages are welcome by prior arrangement.
