Fugitive’s Drift is a wonderful destination for anyone who enjoys history or simply spectacular scenery. The lodge and guesthouse enjoy wonderful views of the mountains and Battlefields, and accommodation is in comfortable cottages that all have a very homely atmosphere. The cottages all have private balconies or terraces from which to enjoy the views and there is one two-bedroom cottage with it’s own sitting area, ideal for families. Both the lodge and guesthouse have their own swimming pool and stays here are on a full board basis. There is also Umzinyathi Farmhouse on the property, which is a self-catering house with 3 bedrooms, perfect for groups travelling together.
The Rattray family are knowledgeable historians, keen to share their interest in the fascinating history of the region. Fugitives Drift has the finest guides in South Africa, who offer guests thought-provoking and very emotional tours of the battlefields. There is walking, hiking, mountain biking, game drives, fishing and horse-riding on the property, and food and wine is also a big part of the experience of Fugitives Drift and guests are spoilt for choice in their selection of both.
Fugitive's Drift Lodge in home to 10 spacious luxury twin en-suite roos. The lodge is set on the site of the original Rattray homestead and houses the majority of the memorabilia in the central lounge and dining room area. Each of the bedrooms have a private verandah and there is a spectacular large swimming pool situated on a secluded spur on the lip of the Buffalo River Gorge. The Lodge is also home to The Harford Library, with incredible views over the Buffalo River Gorge and the mountain of Isandlwana. Lunch is served on the deck here very day.
At Fugitive's Drift Guests House there are six luxury en-suite rooms. This old farmhouse has been adapted to include a charming sitting and dining room and the outside eating area has a stunning view across a plain with Isandlwana in the distance. The Guest House also has a large swimming pool with views across the plain.
