Located int he remote Western corridor of the Serengeti
Home to large populations of resident game all year round
Lies right in the path of the Great Migration from June to July
The camp is set right on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River so year round guests can enjoy the noises of the pod of hippos just beneath their tents and in June and July you have a fantastic change of seeing the masses of animals making their dramatic river crossing. Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is in fact the only camp in the Serengeti to look out onto a hippo pool.
Each of the tents are set along the river bank so the private deck of each tent offers fabulous river views, as does the sundeck around the camp swimming pool. The tents are rustic yet luxurious with sliding doors opening out onto their decks and discreet butler hatches for your morning drinks to be delivered through.
The main guest areas of the camp include an extensive deck near the swimming pool, a dining area that leads into a traditional African boma and a large sitting area and domed bar. As dusk falls the camp is lit up by flaming torches and paraffin lamps, giving it a wonderfully magical feel.
Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp is set in one of the most remote parts of the reserve, which has the benefit of playing host to far fewer tourists than any other part of the park. The area is home to plenty of resident game year round but in June and July the Grumeti region is lying right in the path of the Great Wildebeest Migration, offering great sightings and river crossings. There is also a topi migration in the area and it is the only place in Tanzania where you can see black and white colobus monkeys. The camp is also situated on a by-water of the Grumeti River, famed for it's dramatic wildebeest crossings and enormous Nile crocodiles. Guests can also enjoy the noises of the pod of hippos and the camp is in fact the only camp in the Serengeti to look out onto a hippo pool.
Whilst many people head to the Serengeti just for a chance of seeing the Great Migration guests at Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp can be assured of fantastic game viewing all year round. There are huge prides of lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena in the area as well as big buffalo and elephant herds so there is always plenty of action. Hippos are also a frequent visitor to the camp.
