Marataba's 15 tented suites are contemporary in style, constructed of stone and canvas, with spectacular views of the reserve from their private decks.

The 11 two-sleeper Tented Suites are undoubtedly modern, yet capture a sense of the old safari days with their African design elements and plush comforts. Each Suite features a deluxe king-sized bed, fully-stocked minibar, freestanding bath (that you can wallow in up to your chin), en-suite and outdoor showers, along with a shaded deck raised on stilts to make the most of the bush views beyond.

In each of the four Family Tented Suites, children have their own en-suite bedroom – and not a sleeper couch in sight. It’s just like home with a bunkbed, novel toys and games, kiddies’ own bath-time amenities, robes and slippers, and a spacious shower. There’s ample room for everyone, and the separate, en-suite main bedroom gives parents more of their own space, too.

The Mack & Madi (named after the owners children) experience has all bases covered, from accommodations and mealtimes to activities and excursions, allowing young ones a little extra freedom to play, discover and just be kids. The Eco Garden is at the centre of the action: spoor casting; pool games; rock painting; cookie baking; picnics; outdoor cinema; toasting marshmallows and stargazing.

Between safaris, take time out in your idyllic surrounds with nothing but the choice of where to relax to consider... By the lounge fire, in a lawn hammock, around the pool, with an in-room spa therapy... Africology massages, at the hands of expert therapists, add to your sense of complete escape. Offered in the quiet retreat of your Suite or deck overlooking the bushveld, they are a luxury unique to Africa.

When it comes to dining, at Marataba, every meal is an experience... Dishes give familiar favourites a South African twist, while the settings – a pop-up bush dinner here, a surprise safari stop there – add to your sense of discovery! Meals are prepared with the freshest seasonal ingredients, are full of wholesome flavour, delicious and a treat for all. There are also menus designed specially for children. Dining is paired with sought-after wines from the Cape, as well as premium spirits, craft beers, and spoils like gourmet hot chocolate for young guests.

If you want to experience a night even closer to nature, Marataba also has its own extraordinary sleep-out treehouse. For romantics, adventurers and solitude seekers alike, Thabametsi sets you up for a night out in Africa you’ll never forget. Arrive at sunset to a picnic feast, spend the dusk hours spotting wildlife on the plains, and fall asleep counting shooting stars... You needn’t forgo luxury, including a canopied bed and full en-suite, for the experience and you’ll be perfectly safe, with your guide on call.

Just 3.5 hours from Johannesburg, Marataba is a 23,000 hectare piece of unspoilt Africa within Marakele National Park. Here the  Waterberg range stands sentinel over wildlife-rich plains, ancient San rock art and Iron Age sites, and riverscapes whose sheer beauty fill you with wonder. Within this vast wilderness sits just Marataba Safari Lodge and Marataba Mountain Lodge.

It’s wildlife includes the Big Five and abundant bird species, with the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures (including 800 breeding pairs) in the world to be found here.

The park and concession fall within the UNESCO recognised Waterberg Biosphere – the only savannah biosphere in the world!

Amazing views, exceptional guiding, a fun-filled kids programme, exquisite cuisine and beautiful tented suites...there's nothing not to love about Marataba. Less than a four hour drive from Johannesburg it's also easy to reach and as much an amazing place to relax as to enjoy an adventure. Lying by the lodge swimming pool is heaven during the heat of the day and having the variety of activities such as water safaris and bush walks means that guests can spend much longer here than at many other lodges.

Children of all ages welcome.
