Monastero Santa Rosa is an exceptional and unforgettable boutique hotel on the Amalfi Coast. Once a 17thcentury monastery, it has been respectfully restored since and every aspect of the hotel pays tribute to its heritage. Purchased by a Roman hotelier Mr Marcucci, the property was converted into a hotel in 1924. It’s motto became ‘At each window, the sun. From each window, the sea.” Guests will enjoy discovering the monastery’s rich history and the thoughtful details that have been restored and can be viewed from the moment of entering the property. The dedication and care that have been put into the restoration of the monastery over the years are a real testament to its owners. It’s structural integrity and atmosphere have been perfectly preserved and the sense of peace that guests will experience here truly is incomparable.

The hotel is set on a substantial plot of land which is landscaped over four levels of gardens. Scattered around the property are quiet sun decks, lounge chairs, canopied daybeds and hidden corners to discover such as an enchanting boules court. The pool, restaurant and garden all enjoy stunning panoramic views along the Amalfi coastline and despite having just 20 rooms and suites Monastero Santa Rosa also boasts a fully equipped spa that can rival the spa of any major hotel with a sauna, steam room, hydro pool and tepidarium.

Monastero Santa Rosa commands a spectacular position, perched on the cliff’s edge between Positano and Amalfi and described as ‘a superb vision which hovers over the coast like the wing of an angel.’

The hotel is set high up on the hillside and is about a 10 minute drive from the centre of Amalfi. Alternatively it is about a 30 minute drive from Positano, or 15 minutes from Ravello. Naples airport is about a 1hr20m drive away. There is a complimentary shuttle service to and from Amalfi until midnight each day.

Many historical buildings have been converted into hotels over the years but there are few that we have come across that manage to retain such a sense of their original purpose as Monastero Santa Rosa. The sense of peace and tranquillity settles over you from the moment you walk through the doors and the beautiful setting between sea and sky and exemplary service both contribute to creating a destination that restores, replenishes and revives.
