There are ten villas at Pumulani, each with a grass roof to blend in perfectly to the surroundings. Each villa has a large bedroom, which opens out onto a private deck area overlooking the lake. The en-suite bathrooms also offer wonderful views and contain a bathtub, double shower and ‘his and hers’ sinks. Each villa also contains a spacious sitting area. The family villa also has an additional twin bedroom with an extra bathroom as well.

The main part of the lodge consists of a spacious open restaurant, bar and a cosy fire area for any chilly evenings. Beyond this is the infinity swimming pool with its surrounding deck and sun loungers and a walkway then leads down from the pool to the villas and the beach.

When it comes to how to spend your days at Pumulani, if you’re not one for relaxing by the pool or on the beach then there is still plenty to do. Inclusive in the cost of your stay is snorkelling, fishing, sailing, nature walks, kayaking, sunset cruises on a dhow, mountain bike tours and village tours. At an additional cost there are also a range of motorised water sports available.

Pumulani is located on the west side of the Nankumba Peninsula at the Southern end of Lake Malawi. The lodge is nestled into the lush vegetation on the hillside and has incredible views over Lake Malawi. It is reached by a 3 hour scenic road transfer from Lilongwe, or a 40 minute light aircraft flight followed by a 20 minute road transfer.

Pumulani is a wonderful beach option for the end of a safari. It’s different from the norm being on Lake Malawi rather than by the sea, and there is a whole new kind of underwater world for guests to explore. Pumulani is a Robin Pope Safaris lodge so also work very well in conjunction with their safari lodges in Zambia.

Stays here are fully inclusive of all local drinks and meals. The lodge also offers a connoisseurs wine and spirits list at an additional cost.

Children of all ages are welcome at Pumalani.

The lodge is reached via a 3 hour scenic drive from Lilongwe or via a 40 minute light aircraft flight and then 20 minute road transfer. Guests coming from South Luangwa in Zambia should take a 1 hour charter flight to Lilongwe from where then can continue on to the lodge.

Visas are required for UK citizens to travel to Malawi. Please check your government website for details.

An international departure tax of $35 per person must be paid at Lilongwe Airport.
